YMCA FALL 2 SESSION SPORTS

YOUTH SPORTS & CLINICS – Through YMCA youth sports programs, your child will improve skills, overcome challenges, make new friends, be active and develop lifelong passions. Our YMCA offers year-round youth sports activities, clinics and classes.

KARATE (BEGINNER/FAMILY) – Experience the Korean Martial Arts of Tang Soo Do, taught at the Y by well renowned and acclaimed Master Joyce Tredeau (certified 6th Degree Black Belt). These classes and instructions will teach students to apply defensive and offensive Tang Soo Do techniques, as well as physical and mental skill sets, all while increasing self-confidence. Classes emphasize safety, self-control, strengthening of character and self-esteem is emphasized as much as physical techniques such a kicking, blocking, punching motions and self-defense. “Bully Busting” and “Stranger Danger” are covered. From beginner to intermediate (yellow belt & higher), students work with the teacher to progress at the pace that is right for them in a fun and mutually respectful environment.

R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) WOMEN’S SELF DEFENSE – The national standard in self defense is internationally recognized for programming quality and organizational commitment to excellence. R.A.D. Systems balances the needs of women to acquire self defense education in a relatively short period of time, with the life long commitment required for physical skill mastery. By providing short term training opportunities in a progressive building block format, and combining each with R.A.D.’s trademark Lifetime Return and Practice Policy! The R.A.D. Basic Course includes a detailed Manual and Free attendance at future courses anywhere in the USA with completion of the course. Instructors share life-saving information with confidence, knowing that their lessons will be continuously reinforced for a lifetime!

5:30pm-8:30pm Mon. November 6th, Fri. November 10th & Mon. November 13th

Cost is $55 flat fee for all three classes for all participants. Classes conducted at the YMCA in Negaunee.

MIX IT UP SPORTS  – Experience a variety of traditional sports and playground style games through warm ups, skills, drills, and scrimmages. Classes are designed to introduce kids to new sports by teaching the basic individual skills for the next youth sports league. Each week participants will learn and play a new sport. Kids will learn skills and rules of the game through fun and exciting drills and games. Sports include soccer, basketball, kickball, baseball/softball T-ball, floor hockey, flag football and a few other surprises!

YOUTH BASKETBALL – Introduce your child to a game filled with action, fun, and teamwork. Through learning and refining ball handling to strengthening defensive and offensive skills, your child will learn the fundamentals with positive coaching and personal attention as we lay the foundation for league play. Our trained coaches’ focus on building players’ core skills such as ball handling, defense, offense, rebounding, shooting, conditioning and more. All levels are welcome and will be separated by age and skill level.

YOUTH KICKBALL – A lot of feet and big kicks for all…the joy of recess lives on with our Youth Kickball teams! The ball is the big difference between the YMCA’s kickball and the game you may have played as a kid (or with your kids). Kickball helps children make new friends, stay active and learn new skills. We are committed to excellent coaching with a focus on fair play, healthy competition and parent participation. We make sure that every child gets to play and that the games are safe, fair and most of all fun!

GYMNASTICS – No experience necessary! In a fun and encouraging environment, children will be introduced to gymnastics skills and apparatuses. Children ages 3 and up to 10 will learn how to correctly and safely use apparatus such as spring boards and balance beams, correct positioning and safety as well as the rules and fundamentals of the sport. Classes offered are the Mighty Tumblers (ages 3-5) & Star Tumblers (ages 6-10).

VOLLEYBALL – Take to the courts in the Y’s Volleyball programs as presented by Tracy Hruska through the Articatz volleyball program. From the Articatz Volley Tots, to the Articatz level 1 Academy, and to the Junior Spikers, there’s a level for everyone! Every player receives personal attention through positive coaching, practices and games. Our young athletes will build, refine and hone in their skills while gaining self-confidence, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership abilities as they grow in their abilities and lay the foundation for league play within the sport.

Articatz Volley Tots

We will be learning the skills of volleyball thru functional movement- Skipping, shuffling, throwing, dribbling and jumping. We will be using tennis balls, hula hoops, jump ropes and other fun equipment to get us ready to be future volleyball players.

Kindergarten – 1 grade

Tuesdays: November 14, 21, 28 December 5,12,19; 6-7pm

Cost $60 for all participants

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL SKILLS CLINIC – Technical & Positional level skills clinic for competitive high school and club readiness play. Areas of focus will include technical and tactical aspects of the individual positions & components for competitive volley ball play at the higher level. Clinic offers two levels open up to all junior varsity and varsity high school age players:

Setters & Libero: Sundays 3-4pm

Hitters: Sundays 4-5pm

Cost $60 for all participants
