As a part of the April 7th Marquette County League of Women Voters Membership Meeting, Ms. Jo Foley will provide a brief overview of “The For the People Act.” This is an important presentation to help us understand this historic piece of legislation.
On March 3, 2021, the US House of Representatives passed “The For the People Act,” in order to “expand Americans’ access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes.”

On March 3, 2021, the US House of Representatives passed “The For the People Act,” in order to “expand Americans’ access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes.” (H.R.1) With the strong support of the League of Women Voters, “The For the People Act” now moves to the U.S. Senate to become S.1.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Current members will receive email reminders with a “Zoom” invitation and an agenda. Non-members are invited to attend meetings to learn more about the League.
