A Dramatic Reading of Holdin' Our Own: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

Join us at 7pm CENTRAL/8pm EASTERN for a dramatic reading of Dr. Shelley Russell’s play “Holdin’ Our Own: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” to benefit the Marquette Maritime Museum. The evening will conclude with a special performance of the troubadour of the Great Lakes, Lee Murdock, singing the hauntingly classic “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”

Dr. Shelley Russell premiered this dramatic work 20 year ago, commissioned by the Marquette Maritime Museum and the Iron Ore Industry Museum. The play takes you through the eventful night on November 10, 1975 in a searing 90 minutes of storm-tossed drama. This transformative piece will be brought to life once more on November 9, 2020 in a dramatic reading online. The intention of the play, as it was then and will be now, is to honor the brave men who passed rather than glorifying the wreck; this rings true in our reading, even without the aid of costumes or sets. This event is to benefit the Marquette Maritime Museum and their ongoing efforts to keep telling the incredible history of our Inland Seas and our connection to them as a community.
