ADMISSION INFO

 

The UP200 Fun Run is intended to provide a fun introduction to sled dog sports for those who have had little or no previous experience.   These rules are in place for the safety and welfare of the dogs, owners and spectators.  Race officials will attempt to follow the spirit of the rules while encouraging friendly competition.  Judges decisions will be final.

I. Entry

1.     Dogs and/or drivers entered in the competitive 2-day UP200 Dryland Dash are not eligible to register for the UP200 Fun Run events.

2.     Entry forms are available at UP200.org and may be submitted online or received by mail no later than 5:00 pm Friday October 12, 20187.   Participants may register at the race site on Saturday, October 13 prior to 1:30 pm for an additional fee.

3.     Start order will be established by the date the entry form is received.

4.     Attendance at the pre-race meeting on Saturday October 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the race site is mandatory.

5.     Drivers under the age of 18 must have the liability waiver signed by parent or legal Guardian.

6.     If the races are officially cancelled for any reason, there will be a 50% refund of the entry fee.

 

II. Health and Welfare

1.      All dogs must be current with vaccinations for parvovirus, distemper, and rabies.  Proof of vaccines must be available upon request.

2.     The race veterinarian may disqualify any dogs believed to have a contagious disease and they shall immediately leave the premises.

3.     The Race Marshal may disallow any entry for just cause including failure to have the dog under control or abuse of the dog.  Use of whips is prohibited.

4.     The Race Marshal shall have the discretion to cancel race classes due to temperature, humidity or other unsafe conditions.  Cancellation policy will apply.

5.     The Race Marshal may disallow any dog, which in his opinion is unfit or incapable of completion of the trail.

 

III. Classes and Equipment

1.     Dog  Equipment:

a.     Full choke collars are prohibited.

b.     A well-fitted harness is required.

c.     A shock absorber line 7 to 12 feet in length when extended is required.

d.     Shock absorber line will be attached to the front wheel bicycle stem or to the driver’s belt if Canicross.

2.     One Dog Bikejor:

a.     Bicycle will have 2 wheels only and an adequate braking system independent of the chain.

b.     Driver is required to wear a helmet.

c.     Single starts will be at one minute intervals.

d.     Front axle will determine the starting point.

 

3.     One Dog Canicross:

a.      The runner/driver will have an adequate belt to attach to the shock absorber line.

b.     Mass starts at the start line will be used, but competitors may be divided into waves if the number of entrants warrants.

4.     Finish is determined by when the dog crosses the finish line.

5.     Late to the start line:  A late starting team will be allowed to start at the end of the class with the trail time starting as scheduled.

6.     Identifying numbers will be given to the drivers and must be worn on the front of the competitor’s jersey/shirt for the duration of the race.

 

IV. Trail Protocol and Marking

1.     Passing:  The overtaking driver may call “Trail” to request the overtaken team to allow a safe, unrestricted pass by pulling to the side or slowing.  In the event of a tangle the overtaking team will have the right-of –way, once untangled.

2.     The team shall run the entire one mile course.  If a team leaves the course, the team shall return to the point they left the trail to continue.  There are fences to clarify the trail and trail helpers in place.

3.     The trail will be marked:

a.     “Right Turn” indicated by a red marker on the right side.

b.     “Left Turn” indicated by a red marker on the left side.

c.     “Straight Ahead” indicated by a blue or green marker.

 

V.  Competitors’ Responsibilities

1.     Competitors are responsible for the conduct of their dogs during the race event and must also clean up after their dogs in the starting and parking areas.

Our wish is for all to have a great time, outdoors, getting exercise with their dogs, all in the spirit of fair play and friendly competition.  Have a safe fun run!
