This year’s Art Week is the biggest yet, with over two dozen unique signature events including special exhibits, artist receptions, concerts, workshops, demonstrations, and live performances. This year, we’re bringing back some of our favorite events from the past couple of years, as well as introducing a few new ones, to highlight and celebrate the arts in our community.
The Fresh Coast Plein Air painting competition, now in its second year, has expanded into a two-day event, featuring both a daytime and an evening competition segment culminating in a public showing, reception, and Art Week closing party at the Presque Isle Pavilion. TaMaMa Dance Company will introduce their second Large Work, Flow, after their widely successful Horizon show from 2017. The Art Stroll also returns, highlighting regional artists and musicians through pop-up exhibitions at local businesses and live performances around Downtown Marquette.
Some of this year’s new Art Week events include special performances by the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic during Art Stroll (sponsored by the Hiawatha Music Co-op) and the Marquette Symphony Orchestra Summer Strings. Also, each night of the week, a local eatery will be hosting Art Week After Dark, featuring live music, food and drink features, and other surprises.
We’re also partnering with Pine Mountain Music Festival to promote the Marquette leg of their 2018 Festival. Join the UPstarts and Bergonzi Strings for their performances at Reynolds Recital Hall, and come experience A Taste of Carmen, featuring arias, duets, and ensembles from Bizet’s famous opera. Karyne Arys, French flamenco dancer extraordinaire, will be a featured performer in Carmen, and will also be hosting a master class at the Queen City Arts Co-op.
A host of unique workshops, concerts, and other arts experiences round out what’s sure to be an inspiring and vibrant week.
All events will feature their own listings on Marquette 365, including more information and how to get involved.
